I am really thankful for social media and especially SU those make it easier for almost anybody to spread the word and deliver their message to the world for free and in no time.
Few years ago, the best you can do for your story is to syndicate a press release and cross your fingers hoping that some news paper correspondent pick it and republish it, or may be one of those big news websites give it the exposure that you want. Social media provides us with very good chance to have at least hundreds of people reading any story we write, up to thousands if we are lucky enough to hit some big social media website’s home page.
Why SU should be your first social media website to start promoting your story?
- Assuming you use digg, the best you can get if you don’t have a big network of friends or don’t have enough digs for your story is to get less than ten visitors to your story.
- Delicious, is almost the same, for average stories.
- Redit is a little better with 30 visits sometimes
But with SU, for almost any new story you will have a chance to get from 100-500 visits, SU has really very good mechanism in promoting new stories for even new low popularity members. Unlike other social media websites those don’t give your story any initial boost (unless you ask some friends help), SU will show your story for stumblers those are interested in your story topic in the next few hours followed your submission, so if your story is good enough, you will get more and more thumbs up and may be you will hit the buzz page and get amassing exposure, even though the worst scenario is having average story and get few hundreds visits. SU I love you..

Stumbleupon is more than social bookmarking website but to make it easier for you as non Stumbler to understand what does really Stumbleupon is, let us explain it
1- As a social bookmarking website. If you have already used www.digg.com or www.reddit.com you will stumbleupoin social book marketing section here:
http://buzz.stumbleupon.com/
Basically, nothing much different at the first glance, a list of news sorted by reviews and time and many other factors. But I like their tags cloud to the right it is really handy and makes navigation much easier upon the visitor interest
2- Stumbleupon also has other www.myspace.com type features where you can associate your account with other “friends” via the stumbleupon.com site. This allows you to see updates they make to their webpage, you can see also what they are stumpling.
3- Stumbleupon toolbar is may be what makes Stumbleupon really different form other social bookmarking website, stumbleupon users have the ability to give websites a thumbs up or a thumbs down as they surf the internet.
Stumbleupon.com tracks the votes and then uses that information later when a user clicks on a stumble button on that same toolbar, stumble also This will take them to random webpages that other users have given a thumbs ups for.
The stumble button in Stumble toolbar doesn’t actually randomly take you to a webpage, it uses:
- The preference in your profiles especially your interests
- The interests of your friends
- What kind of websites your are stumbling (tags are important)
- The behavior of your friends will play a role in what page Stumbleupon will take you the next time you click the stumble button in the tool bar
